Who is a BCBA?
- The BCBA qualification is internationally recognised.
- Individuals who hold a professional credential as a BCBA have:
- completed a master’s degree which includes over 250 hours of direct instruction in the science and professional practice of applied behaviour analysis, including ethics, carer and staff training, data collection and analysis, and data-based decision-making;
- successfully completed 1500 hours or more of supervised independent fieldwork, working under the close supervision of a more experienced BCBA; and
- successfully passed a certification examination administered under secured testing conditions that is professionally administered and scored.
- *A significant correlation was found between the credentials held by the supervisor and mastery of learning objectives, with children receiving program supervision from a BCBA mastering 73.7% more learning objectives than children who received supervision from a professional without the BCBA credential.

What does the program look like?
- A typical best-practice program may include:
- initial and ongoing assessment of the learner;
- parent and stakeholder coaching and training;
- several hours of weekly therapy with an early intervention therapist/allied health assistant;
- several hours of monthly supervision with a BCBA to develop the learner’s individualised learning program; and,
- ongoing communication and collaboration between parents, school personnel, and therapeutic team to review learner’s progress in skill acquisition and decrease in maladaptive behaviours exhibited by the learner.
